next-gen model

With American Apple pundit Walt Mossberg chiming in on the 3G iPhone rumours saying such a version will arrive in 60 days, this story is only going to get bigger between now and June.

And, now feeding the rumour fires in the blogosphere, is the emergence of a supposed spy shot of the 3G version of the device.

Leaked online by iPodObserver, the new iPhone “will also sport a glossy black back, replacing the satin nickel look found on the current model”.

According to the site’s unnamed sources: “the redesigned iPhone back also drops the black plastic end piece that covers the antenna, and it appears that Apple will continue to offer an 8GB model”.

While some speculate that the change of cover makes sense for what Apple are planning to put inside - such as the 3G chip and 802.11n Wi-Fi - others are crying “Photoshop” very loudly, so, as always with Apple-related rumours, big pinch of salt required.

iphoneNEWS: 7 February 2008 12:03 GMT - Steve Jobs confirmed last September that the second generation iPhone, with 3G, is on its way while rumours had it pinned down for release by the end of 2007.

It didn’t arrive but an announcement by AT&T, which has the exclusive contract for the iPhone in the US (like O2 in the UK), would suggest we’re not going to be waiting much longer.

Jobs pointed to battery problems as to why the 3G device wasn’t already available but now AT&T has announced that it is to massively expand its 3G network across the US, which would seem to imply that Apple has resolved its technical hitches.

According to the AppleInsider, AT&T is to deploy 3G wireless broadband service to more than 80 additional cities in the United States through the course of the year. More »

Dual Sim Mobile Phones are new to Philippines just last quarter of 2007 where as it’s popular in China because most of it are made in China. Initially I thought all dual sim phones are fake and doesn’t last long and we need to switch off before swapping to other sim. With much curiosity I went to a shop in Divisoria and Carriedo which is the common place here to find those china made gadgets. As  I personally came across a new dual gsm sim card phone, I was taken aback when I saw the actual quality and features of this phone. The phone comes in lots of designs with much features more or less than other branded phones we are currently now using. Instantly I made up my mind to buy one of those. More »

iphoneMobile phone company Orange has said 20% of customers who have bought iPhones from it in France have opted for unlocked ones. Orange sold the popular Apple product for 399 euros (£288) with a two-year contract, or 749 euros without one.

Elsewhere, mobile companies only sell iPhones to customers who take out network contracts with them.

Orange sold 30,000 iPhones in the first five days, 20% of which were unlocked so they could be used on any network.

Orange says that 48% of people buying the phones were new customers for the network.

Court ruling

On Tuesday, a German court overturned an injunction that had forced T-Mobile to sell unlocked phones.

In the two weeks that the injunction was in place, T-Mobile sold unlocked iPhones for 999 euros, compared with 399 euros for a phone with a two-year contract.

The company has not revealed how many unlocked phones it sold at that price but says it did sell some.

The exclusive agreements between Apple and mobile operators have caused controversy outside France, with software circulating online that claims to unlock the iPhone.

Apple has warned that hacking into the phone’s software could render the phones “permanently inoperable” if software updates are downloaded.
